The club has a very active Senior Gents section open to the over 55/60’s and its current membership comprises as wide a selection of golfing capabilities as the age range of the group. There is absolutely no obvious relationship between the two!
Throughout the summer months the weekly medals, which are held on Friday mornings, routinely attract a field of around 20 participants. Competition is such that winning scores come from members across the section and there are trophies awarded at the end of the season for the most consistent play.
In order to foster a good friendly atmosphere all Friday morning medals are subject to a draw to select the playing groups, which routinely are three ball.
Throughout the season there are a number of knockout competitions which progress through to completion in early September. The highlight of these is the Drive Trophy, a fourball knockout where the pairings are chosen randomly.
The Senior Gents section has a series of inter-club matches with some of the other 9 hole courses in Perthshire. Home and away matches take place between Muthill and Aberfeldy, Comrie, Dunning, and St Fillans. Selection for these matches aims to give a chance to participate to as wide a selection of members of the group as is possible, consistent with our desire to provide a keen competition on the day.
One of the highlights of our season is the chance to take part in a series of work days where senior members spend a morning, under the supervision of the Greenkeeper and the Greens committee, in carrying out items of routine maintenance and improvement around the course. By common consent these sessions generate a feeling of self fulfilment and satisfaction at seeing the course visibly improve.
Muthill Golf Club has a well-earned reputation for having an outstandingly beautiful and well maintained 9 hole parkland course which our Ladies Section appreciate and enjoy.
The Ladies Section is very friendly, offering a warm welcome to new members and visitors whilst aiming to be inclusive and encouraging. Our membership is continually growing and as a 9-hole course (with 9 different tees on the back nine) we are a great size for golfers of all levels and standards, whether you are an experienced player or have never picked up a club before. The length of the Course also means you can fit in a round in 2 + hours, so you can work it in with a busy schedule.
Covid-19 curtailed much of our freedom to play golf early in the season, however since opening again in April, the Lady Captain and her Committee has organised the golf season’s competition schedule which has included a mix of competition golf, fun games and our Ladies Open Greensomes.
Our normal fundraising activities, such as our very successful Coffee morning has had to be put in abeyance. However, throughout our isolation we kept in touch by the publication of our popular newsletter and weekly Zoom “afternoon tea”.
On Thursdays during the summer, we play our main competitions starting with a 9.30am draw, then at 1.30pm and 5.00pm. As working ladies are an integral part of our Club, the later tee time is popular.
Tuesdays offer more opportunities to play both 9 and 18 hole medals. It is also a good time to start getting a handicap with a pre handicap group teeing off at 10.00am. If you have not already got a handicap or want to get back into the swing of golf and haven’t played for some time this is a great group to join. There is also a group of lady members always willing to have a bounce game or mark a card for handicap.
On Tuesday and Thursday mornings over the winter period, for those brave enough to battle the elements, a variety of games for charity are played. On Saturday mornings there is a 9 hole Winter League.
We share a reciprocal membership at Crieff and Comrie with a reduction in Green Fees and enjoy friendly matches with them and other nearby Clubs.
We hope you will join us as a member or a visitor and enjoy golf at Muthill Golf Club.
A very warm welcome is extended to all golfing visitors from everyone at Muthill Golf Club. The 9 hole course (with 18 tees), most definitely has something for everyone. Having a mix of par 3s and 4s with narrow fairways, it is a parkland course that is ideal for all abilities.
The stunning views alone make Muthill an attractive place to play golf, however as the course is also home to many wildlife species (hares, red kites, yellow hammers and tree creepers, etc), any visitor’s experience can include a few unexpected and exciting ‘sightings’.
As part of a golfing break, a golf outing or whether joining us as an individual player, we are confident that a visit to Muthill will be both enjoyable and memorable.
Book a round now! Come for the day, play your round of golf and enjoy some good food in our friendly clubhouse.
