The club has a very active Senior Gents section open to the over 55/60’s and its current membership comprises as wide a selection of golfing capabilities as the age range of the group. There is absolutely no obvious relationship between the two!
Throughout the summer months the weekly medals, which are held on Friday mornings, routinely attract a field of around 20 participants. Competition is such that winning scores come from members across the section and there are trophies awarded at the end of the season for the most consistent play.
In order to foster a good friendly atmosphere all Friday morning medals are subject to a draw to select the playing groups, which routinely are three ball.
Throughout the season there are a number of knockout competitions which progress through to completion in early September. The highlight of these is the Drive Trophy, a fourball knockout where the pairings are chosen randomly.
The Senior Gents section has a series of inter-club matches with some of the other 9 hole courses in Perthshire. Home and away matches take place between Muthill and Aberfeldy, Comrie, Dunning, and St Fillans. Selection for these matches aims to give a chance to participate to as wide a selection of members of the group as is possible, consistent with our desire to provide a keen competition on the day.
One of the highlights of our season is the chance to take part in a series of work days where senior members spend a morning, under the supervision of the Greenkeeper and the Greens committee, in carrying out items of routine maintenance and improvement around the course. By common consent these sessions generate a feeling of self fulfilment and satisfaction at seeing the course visibly improve.
