After lapsing for number of years the Junior Section was re-vamped during the summer of 2022. This was partly due to a Blue-Sky Group initiative and the fact that we had two qualified coaches on the committee. It was agreed that having a strong junior section is a lifeline for the club as it will hopefully produce more adult members in the future. It is also an added benefit for the well-being of the youngsters in our village and the surrounding community.
The section presently provides coaching during the year with twelve [12] sessions during the summer months, normally on a Friday evening. The beginners’ classes run from 4.00 – 5.00 pm and for those with more experience from 5.00 – 6.00 pm. During the winter of 2025 / 2026 we introduced classes once per month to keep their interest going.
For the first two years the classes were delivered by our coaches/helpers. However, during the winter of 2025 / 2026 we enlisted the help of a PGA professional. We hope to continue this arrangement going forward.
Our time with the youngsters, so far, has been spent on improving their skills. We hope that we have reached the stage where they can start gaining their handicaps and thereafter enter competitions.
